Activision “Disappointed” In Former Infinity Ward Heads
It seems as if the video game industry is always riddled with legal trouble, and when a new case comes along, it usually sticks around for a while. The latest example would have to be the Activision vs ex-Infinity Ward studio heads battle.
The latest development in this ongoing story is that Activision has issued a response to the lawsuit that was filed by Jason West and Vince Zampella, the two studio heads that are no longer with Infinity Ward. Activision is calling West's and Zampella's d...
Ex-Infinity Ward Heads Suing Activision
We pretty much saw this coming. Jason West and Vince Zampella, the now former Infinity Ward studio heads that were fired on Monday, have filed suit against Activision for terminating their employment before the date that they were scheduled to receive "substantial royalty payments as part of their existing contracts for Modern Warfare 2."
"Instead of thanking, lauding, or just plain paying Jason and Vince for giving Activision the most successful entertainment product ever offered to the ...
Take-Two Financial Results Full of Info, Mafia II Delayed
Take-Two Interactive's financial results briefing today included several highlights worth mentioning on here. The biggest one worth mentioning is that Mafia II has been delayed to a fourth fiscal quarter release. The game was already delayed last year to allow more time for development.
Also, currently, L.A. Noire, Mafia II, Max Payne 3 and Sid Meier's Civilization V are all planned for release in the fourth fiscal quarter. But according to the briefing, "the Company's fiscal year 2010 guid...
LEGO and TT Games Partners Through 2016
In some nice, reassuring news, we'll be getting new LEGO branded games for atleast another 7 years. LEGO and developer TT Games have extended their partnership to make LEGO videogames through 2016.
The LEGO games have also made quite the impression in the video game industry:
"TT Games is the publisher and developer behind the award winning hit LEGO videogame franchises including, LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Batman: The Videogame and LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, which have sold cl...
Activision Confirms Departure of Studio Heads
This was actually included in the investor statement that we reported on earlier today, but we felt that it deserved its own news story.
Activision has officially announced that studio heads "Jason West and Vince Zampella are no longer with Infinity Ward." Activision Publishing chief technology officer Steve Pearce and head of production Steve Ackrich will be the new heads of the studio, but on an interim basis. Also, the "Call of Duty business unit" will be led by Philip Earl, who is cu...
Evil Afoot At Infinity Ward, Security Appears, President Fired?
The big headline this morning is that publisher Activision has brought the hammer down at Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward's Los Angeles studio. G4 shed light on the story last night. G4's source told them that a "bunch of 'bouncer-types'" showed up outside the developer's offices unannounced. When employees approached the 'bouncers' and asked why they were there, they received no response. The G4 source claimed that "Everyone is on edge."
This 'bouncer' business all went down after I...
Conviction Delayed To Make It “Awesome”
It turns out that we were right when we guessed as to why Splinter Cell: Conviction was delayed yesterday. The delay was decided on because the game needs "a bit more polish," which is what Ubisoft told Eurogamer today as to the cause of the delay. "The game looks brilliant, but we want it to be awesome," a spokesperson added.
Rumor had it that the delay was to push the game later into the year to get out of the nearly full release schedule of other highly anticipated triple-A titles this Q...
Netflix For Wii Announced
It would appear that Netflix is attempting to take over the world. If not the world, than it's atleast attempting to brainwash all gamers....Okay, so we may be totally off on this. But we do know one thing: Netflix is definitely trying to expand its audience. According to New York Times, Netflix services will soon be coming to the Wii.
The Wii will be joining the already Netflix-capable Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 sometime this Spring. Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, said...
EA Shutting Down Several Sport Game Servers
It's the first working day of the new year, and EA is already announcing their plans to shutdown more online gaming servers for some of their "not new" games, as I like to put it. The majority of the twenty-five titles scheduled to lose their servers will lose service on February 2nd, while the remaining will lose service on February 9th. As EA put it on their post:
"Servers for the games listed below will be shut down on the indicated dates. You may continue to play the games online up un...
Grand Theft Auto In Trouble?
Some people are beginning to fear that the Grand Theft Auto series reached its climax with Grand Theft Auto IV back in 2008, and is now just a thing of the past. Atleast that's what Broadpoint AmTech analyst Ben Schachter thinks.
"...we must raise an even bigger question: has the Grand Theft Auto franchise peaked? Given the strength of GTA IV in 2008, the question may seem misplaced, but our concern is that the very highly rated new GTA content for Xbox as well as PSP and DS did not perfor...
