The world premier gameplay footage of Halo 3: ODST was shown this morning at Microsoft’s E3 Press Conference. Bungie’s Joe Stanton was the speaker and demoer of ODST.

The demo shed some light on several new features, and some returning features. The player controls “The Rookie”. He is a specially trained fighter that has access to new weapons, a high-tech visor, and the scoped pistol from Halo 1. ODST will include a coop mode called Firefight, and will be available when the game launches. A new HUD and silenced weapons are some of the additions to the game.

ODST will also include three new multiplayer maps: Heretic, Longshore, and Citadel; along with the full Halo 3 multiplayer experience that includes the Heroic, Legendary, Cold Storage, and Mythic map packs.

After the demo, Joe Stanton was also the one to make the announcement everyone has been waiting for. Halo 3: ODST will be released on September 22nd, 2009. And Joe Stanton wasn’t done yet. He had another announcement. Apparently Bungie has been working on a top secret project. Right when he said that, a video appeared on the screen behind him.

The video started off with a view from space of a planet, with what appeared to be explosions on the planet’s surface. Then, the all familiar Halo soundtrack music started playing in the background. What came next was what everyone in the audience was hoping for. The logo of the next Halo game appeared on screen…Halo Reach.

We have absolutely no information on the game at this time except that it will come out in 2010 and players that buy Halo 3: ODST will get access to the Halo Reach Beta.
